For allergy‑aware families and registered sites who need clear, consistent nut‑safety signals.
Tiers & marks
Tiers and marks explain how the Always Nut Free™ standard appears in the real world. Each triangle and colour tells families, schools, and food businesses exactly what kind of nut‑safety they can expect from a product, kitchen, or premises. By using a clear, consistent system, we make it easier to spot suitable options at a glance and reduce the risk of confusion around “nut‑free” claims.
On this page you can see how the blue, green and gold tiers work, what each mark means in practice, and what’s required before a business can display them. The aim is simple: a trusted visual language that works the same way on pack, at the door, and inside the Always Nut Free directory and app, so people with allergies can make safer, faster decisions wherever they are.
The three tiers
Every registrant is assigned to a single tier based on how nuts are controlled on site and how the standard is applied. Each tier uses a distinct triangle mark.
Nut Free Facility
For manufacturing and production sites that do not handle peanuts or tree nuts on any line and operate nut‑free every day.
The blue triangle mark appears on packs, technical sheets and B2B materials to signal a nut‑safe facility to buyers and parents.
Nut Free Premises
For cafés, restaurants, shops, schools and other venues that do not stock or serve nuts anywhere on the premises.
The green triangle appears on doors, menus and digital listings so families can choose safer places quickly.
Always Nut Free
Our audited tier for organisations that want deeper verification and ongoing review of their nut‑free systems.
The gold triangle will be reserved for sites that meet strict criteria verified by independent partners.
Using the marks correctly
The marks are simple by design, but they come with clear rules to protect people with allergies and to keep the language consistent.
Where you can use the marks
• On packaging and product artwork for registered products.
• On menus, signage, websites and apps for registered premises.
• In investor or stakeholder materials that describe your status.
What you must show alongside the mark
• Your current tier name (Facility, Premises or Always Nut Free).
• A link or reference to the Always Nut Free public directory.
• Any local legal allergen statements required in your country.
Misuse and removal
Misuse of the icons, or failure to keep your declaration up to date, may lead to your registration being paused or removed.
This protects the integrity of the scheme and maintains trust with families and regulators.
Design consistency
Colour values, clear space and minimum size requirements are specified in the Always Nut Free brand guidelines.
Colour & contrast
Each tier uses a distinct, accessible colour palette so marks stay legible on pack, in print and on screen.
Clear space & size
Minimum sizes and clear‑space rules ensure the triangles remain recognisable, even when used alongside other brand elements.
Digital assets
You’ll receive artwork files and simple usage rules as part of registration, ready for packaging, menus, websites and apps.
Ready to use the marks?
If you already operate nut‑free, the next step is to register your facility or premises and complete the self‑declaration.
